The Weirdest Tech of CES 2017

Shenzhen LS Technology Co.Ltd | Updated: Jan 10, 2017

Sure, CES began 50 years ago as the Consumer Electronics Show, but like NPR (National Public Radio) or the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test), its organizers would now prefer that you refer to it only by its acronym. That’s appropriate, we think, because each year brings a new crop of bizarre displays to Las Vegas that stretch the limits of the words “consumer” or “electronics.”

CES 2017 BugFancy a crib liner that automatically pokes your baby to make sure it’s still alive? A life-size motorized model of a Star Wars R2-D2 drone that you can control with a glove? And how about a hair brush that analyzes your follicles to tell you how healthy they are?

We saw all of this and more as we roamed the more than 2.6 million square feet of CES exhibition space hosting 3,800 companies this week. There were innovations that seem poised to change our lives, there was the best in show, and then there was the downright weird.

Hit the slideshow to check out the bizarre side of CES in all its glory.
